Closing arguments expected in Brownwood drug trial

State attorneys and legal defense teams will be giving their closing arguments in the trial of 33-year-old Brownwood, Texas resident Shanna Hughitt, who is accused of possessing copious amounts of drugs, in the 35th District Court this Thursday, October 8.

Prosecutor Elisha Bird closed presentation of evidence for the prosecution on Wednesday, October 7, which included testimonies from some of the city’s inmates who were Hughitt’s co-defendants in the operation Tangled Web drug roundup which led to Hughitt’s arrest.

Hughitt’s legal counsel, Stuart Holden of Balliner, did not call on any witnesses during his presentation of evidence.

Charges against Hughitt include engaging in organized criminal activity and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Hughitt was accused of possession with the intent to deliver more than 4 grams and less than 400 grams of methamphetamine on Jan. 15, 2014.
